INDIRECT DRILL CONDITION MONITORING BASED ON MACHINE TOOL CONTROL SYSTEM DATA

Automatic process monitoring, including tool wear is a key aspect of improving the energy efficiency and cost machining process. The flank continuously increases during drilling operations. intensity may vary depending on local properties material settings. This paper shows potential drill condition monitoring based machine control system data, namely spindle drive current Z slide current. workpiece vibration measurement used as reference method. Correlations various features monitored signals are evaluated. These shown to depend, in general, instantaneous depth. Among investigated, RMS signal has been exhibit significant correlation with wear. results were compared for two values cutting speed. selected be independent total lifetime tool, thus demonstrating attractiveness these prediction. Specifically, root mean square torque strongly correlate near bottom hole while axis correlates middle hole.
